Medical Deputising Services
If there isn't a practice operating close to you, you may consider a medical deputising service.
Deputising services are after hours, home doctor services provided by registered doctors gaining general practice experience (non-vocationally registered) and are available when their normal GP is not available (i.e. outside normal business hours*). This ensures access to primary health care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Medical deputising services provide mobile care in a patient’s home, in a residential aged care facility and/or via telehealth or video health, reducing the need to attend an emergency department or urgent care clinic. Please speak to the individual deputising service for details of any costs associated with using these services.
If patients are unsure whether their medical condition requires emergency care or suitable for medical deputising services, they should call 13HEALTH.
*Between 8:00am and 6:00pm on weekdays, Saturday’s after 12:00pm, Sunday’s and public holidays
