GPs gather for third Annual Maternity Symposium and First 2000 Days

July 31, 2024

Over the weekend, Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN was joined by over 60 local GPs and health sector professionals at our third Annual Maternity Symposium.

This year’s symposium had the highest-ever attendance, reflecting the increased focus on antenatal care and the early years as GPs respond to West Moreton’s fast-growing population and high fertility rates.

The symposium was held in-person in north Ipswich, with expert speakers providing updates and insights on antenatal care, infant health and child development. In the final session, the GPs participated in an emergency simulation of paediatric anaphylaxis in a general practice setting.

Between the sessions, attending GPs connected with 15 stalls hosted by local health organisations: Children’s Health Queensland, Cub Care, Mater Services, Peachtree, Play Matters, QUFW, Say it with a smile, Triple P Parenting, True, West Moreton Health and Ipswich City Council.

Early feedback from attending GPs has been very positive:

“Excellent sessions, highly relevant and well delivered,” – Attendee.

“Very relevant to general practice… understanding of newer services availability,” – Attendee.

The symposium presentation slides, and a virtual GP Pack are available on our GP Portal.
