Region’s GPs and nurses attend Paediatric Masterclass

October 31, 2024

In October, Children’s Health Queensland hosted their annual Paediatric Masterclass for General Practice.

The yearly Paediatric Masterclass for General Practice is the leading paediatric education event for GPs in Queensland. The masterclass is a full day seminar that brings medical experts and GPs together to learn about different health issues affecting children.

The masterclass was met with unprecedented demand, and registrations were closed early for the first time in the 10 years the event has been held annually

Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN supported attendance from our region’s health workforce, subsidising tickets for 39 GPs and nurses.

Several PHN staff were in attendance on the day and received positive feedback on the program, including Primary Care Liaison Officer (PCLO) Jenny Ta:

“There was also a practical session where GPs got to meet some children with heart murmurs which I enjoyed. There was also a STORK session (Simulation Training Optimising Resuscitation for Kids) that ran alongside the masterclass where there were groups that consisted of three GPs and two nurses for each session – the attendees really liked the practical activities on the day.”

The PHN’s West Moreton General Practice Liaison Officer (GPLO), Dr Tanusha Ramaloo, said “It was a great day with a mix of lectures, case studies, and hands on practical sessions. We got to listen to cardiac murmurs which was great and much gratitude to the young people who allowed over 100 GPs to auscultate their heart sounds.”

Access to clinical education for the region’s primary care workforce is an important part of the PHN’s role and Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN will continue to support our GPs, nurses, and wider health workforce to access crucial education events and development opportunities.
