Translating and interpreting service (TIS National) July 2024

The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) is an interpreting service provided by the Department of Home Affairs for people with limited English proficiency and for agencies and businesses that need to communicate with their non-English speaking clients.

TIS National is available for free to all service providers commissioned by Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN to deliver mental health and suicide prevention services.

This service ensures health professionals can provide quality care, advice and support to culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. TIS National has access to more than 2700 interpreters in more than 150 languages, and is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year

TIS National provides immediate phone interpreting, pre-booked phone interpreting, on-site interpreting and video interpreting.

PHN-funded mental health and suicide prevention service providers can now use TIS National for free to:

  • set up appointments and referrals
  • support discussing available services with care recipients
  • talk to their clients about their mental health needs.

More information about the TIS National Service, eligibility requirements and how to register and book are available on the TIS National website.
